You Are Not Safe!!
Jodi Lane was electrocuted to death on January 16th. She was walking down the street just like any of us. Con Edison has announced NO PLAN to keep us safe in the future. There were 109 dogs electrocuted in 2003. 206 Hot spots found in just 2 weeks.
Jodi's friend came to the rally with this sign to bring attention to her friend's senseless death. Girls Club girls give their support.

Editing Digital Photographs
Jennifer , Girls Club member and Chiapas Project participant, edits her work in the office of the Girls Club. She is going off to college in September but will return to meet with our sister Maya AFI photographers when they come to New York in October 2003 to finish the Chiapas Project.
Jennifer , muchachas aporrea a miembro y el participante del proyecto de Chiapas, corrige su trabajo en la oficina del club de las muchachas. Peace in the Middle City
This picture was taken before the war with Iraq started. I think alot of people should look at this photo because that's what we need there today, "PEACE".
I choose that title for this picture because this is not in the "Middle East" but in "The City". Peace in the Middle City.

Hello everyone on the blog... I know it has taken me a long time to actually put something on the blog... but college is very time consuming. This is a picture of shrimp in my kitchen sink. My husband was preparing shrimp for our dinner. I remember the photos of food in your books. I took this picture for the AFI photographers. The shrimp were delicious.

Snow Positive and Negative
11:45 am and it's still snowing! This image is of 2 photographs joined together. One is the positive image and the other is the negative. In Adobe Photoshop, you can make negative images by going under IMAGES and down to ADJUST and then to INVERT. Try it! Snow has a positive effect because it is beautiful, and a negative effect because it is dangerous to walk and drive a car on.

Lou 55, at 6 years of age
In these pictures, I am 6 years old. I lived with my grandmother and grandfather in Export, Pennsylvania. On their land, they had a vegetable garden, chickens, and pigs. My grandfather was a coal miner and drank too much alcohol. My job was to feed the chickens and collect the warm eggs. I did not like the smell of the chicken coup. I am feeding the chickens in this picture. In the other one, I am on the front porch of my grandparents house holding my favorite stuffed bunny. My Uncle Bill took these pictures with his camera.
I enjoy looking at old photographs of myself and family. Do you have old photographs? How old? Who took them?

Mi abuelo era minero de carbón y bebió demasiado alcohol. Mi trabajo era alimentar los pollos y recoger los huevos calientes. No tuve gusto del olor del coup del pollo. Estoy alimentando los pollos en este cuadro. En el otro, estoy en el pórtico delantero de mi casa de los grandparents que sostiene mi conejito relleno preferido. Friends
This is a picture of myself and my friend, Angela. The sun was going down and the light was very yellow. I picked up my camera and we sat on the beds and positioned ourselves so that our heads would be in the middle of the windows. I call this photograph "Friends" because it suggests a closeness at the end of a wonderful day.

Girls Against The War Muchachas Contra Guerra
On February 15, 2003, The Lower Eastside Girls Club participated in New York City's demonstration to protest the war against Iraq. Millions marched for peace in cities around the world. The banner was hand painted by our girls.
De febrero el 15 de 2003, las muchachas más bajas de Eastside aporrean participado en la demostración de la ciudad de York nueva para protestar la guerra en Iraq. Millones marcharon para la paz en ciudades alrededor del mundo. La bandera era mano pintada por nuestras muchachas.

May, 2001 Visit to NYC
Although I cannot be in Chiapas, I am with you in spirit. I am editing the photos from our AFI and LES Girls Club Project. This one is of Juana and Xunka's visit to NYC. We are in the farmer's market at Union Square where they drank "wheat grass". That's Jennifer, Nyasia, Sharamain, Maria, Elizabeth, Lou and Lyn. We have had many adventures together and will have more when all of you come this time. The girls are excited about taking you home to meet their families.

STREET WISDOM
I found this sign on the New York City streets. The inspiring message was written by the artist, Dela Vega. He leaves his sayings all around the town.
I asked to be photographed with the sign so I could inspire others, too.
Also, I would like to meet him one day and show him the photograph.

Girls paint a banner with the words "Kids Against the War" to be carried at the "World Says No To War March" on February 15th, here in New York City.
