Yo me llamo Xunka. Soy maestra de la fotografia y estoy junto a seis de las niñas del Club en la Casa Na Bolom en frente de una pintura de la famosa Gertrudis Duby Blom. Yo nací en la comunidad de Chamula. Tengo 35 años cumplidos y ya vivo acá en la ciudad de San Cristóbal de las Casas desde los cuatro años de edad. Algunos tal vez se acuerdan de mi, porque estuve en New York con ustedes hace unos tres años. Cuando vengan vamos a compartir muchas cosas bonitas. Espero su llegada!!!! Cuando vengan ya no va a hacer frío por acá.
My name is Xunka. I am the photography teacher and I am next to six of the nine girls from Club Balam in front of a famous painting done by Bertrudis Duby Blom. I was born in the Chamula community. I am 35 years old and have lived in he city of San Cristóbal since I was 4 years old. Some of you might remember me because I was in New York about 3 years ago. When you come we will talk about many things. I’m looking forward to your visit!!!! When you get here it will no longer be cold.

Parecemos gemelas porque tenemos la misma altura y edad, 9 años! También vamos las dos en tercero de primaria. Vivimos en la periferia de la ciudad de San Cristobal de las Casas. Hablamos Tzotzil en nuestras casas, pues nuestros familiares son orginarios de San Juan Chamula, pero llegaron a vivir en la ciudad hace años. Esperamos su visita!
Hello New York!! We are Ana (left), and Rosa (right). We are the smallest and most precious of Club Balam and also the most famous because we take the best pictures! We look like twins because we are the same height and age, 9 years old! We are also in the second grade. We live in the outskirts of the city of San Cristóbal de las Casas. We speak Tzotzil in our homes, because our families are originally from San Juan Chamula but they came to live in this city many years ago. We are waiting for your visit!!

Nací en un pueblito llamado Pantelhó, pero luego vine a vivir en la ciudad de San Cristobal. Lo que más me gusta es jugar futbol y basketball. Hello. My name is Juana but my friends call me Juani. I am going to Junior High and my birthday is the 25th of October. I am going to be 14 years, I get along with my family. I was born in a small town called Pantelho, but later I came to live in the city of San Cristóbal. My favorite things are to play soccer and basketball. And to hang out with my friends and to know how to understand each other and help each other out. I like to take pictures. I appreciate the opportunity to photograph and to have memories of life. It was an extremely cold weather today. With the temperature of –7 degrees Celsius and 19 degrees Fahrenheit. We know that your weather was 28 degrees C and 82 degrees F. Today is March 6th 2007. The “C’ after the temperature stands for the Celsius, which also stands for “cold half part of temperature”. The “F” after the temperature stands for Fahrenheit , which also stands for “warmer- hotter half part of temperature”. When we took pictures, we were trying to show you guys how we live and dress in mostly half of the year. We have to wear many layers, scarves, hats, and gloves. Are you familiar with novellas? If so, can you tell us? It was nice to know about you guys and hope that God will watch over you all your life.
Era un dia de extremado frio. Con la temperatura de –7 grados Centigrados y 19 grados Fahrenheit. Nosotros sabemos que el clima de ustedes era 28 grados C y 82 grados F. Hoy dia es Marzo 6 del 2007. La “C” despues de las temperatura es Centigrados, que tambien es “la parte mitad fria de temperatura”. La “F” despues de la temperatura es Fahrenheit, que tambien es “la parte mitad caliente- caluroso de temperature”. Quando estuvimos tomando fotos , estavamos tratando de enseñarle a ustedes como vivimos y vestimos para la mitad del año. Nosotros vestimos en muchos abrigos, bufandas, gorros y guantes. Ustedes conocen novellas? Nos pueden decir de algunas? Es muy bonitos saber de ustedes y espero que Dios lo cuide toda la vida.

It was extremely cold! It was –7 degrees Celsius and 19 degrees Fahrenheit. We were taking pictures of cold people and things looked freezing. Our fingers were freezing and red, when we were taking pictures. It is March 6th 2007, today. We had to wear hats, scarves, gloves and many layers. You guys are very lucky because you don’t have to be in really cold weather.
Era extremadamente frio. Era –7 grados Centigrados y 19 grados Fahrenheit. Estuvimos tomando fotos de personas con frio y cosas congeladas. Nuestros dedos estaban cogelados y rojos, cuando estabamos tomando fotos. Hoy es Marzo 6 del 2007. Vestimos gorros, bufandas, guantes y varios abrigos. Ustedes tienen much suerte por ue no tienen que estar en una temperatura muy fria.

Hi, my name is Latasha but everyone that I know calls me by my middle name.
Ashley. I am 13 years old and will turn 14 in April. I go to a Catholic school. I was there ever since early childhood and now 8th grade going on to High School. I might be going to another school next year. In mid-winter break, I went to Prospect Park in Brooklyn and went snow boarding. I have 4 siblings, Kieghly (older brother), Hector (younger brother), Patrick (youngest brother) and Angelena Lisa (baby sister). The presents that I got for the 2006 Christmas was an ipodnano and a Raleigh bicycle. Okay, that’s enough for now being that I am not trying to write a book, probably next time.
