Girls Against The War Muchachas Contra Guerra
On February 15, 2003, The Lower Eastside Girls Club participated in New York City's demonstration to protest the war against Iraq. Millions marched for peace in cities around the world. The banner was hand painted by our girls.
De febrero el 15 de 2003, las muchachas más bajas de Eastside aporrean participado en la demostración de la ciudad de York nueva para protestar la guerra en Iraq. Millones marcharon para la paz en ciudades alrededor del mundo. La bandera era mano pintada por nuestras muchachas.

May, 2001 Visit to NYC
Although I cannot be in Chiapas, I am with you in spirit. I am editing the photos from our AFI and LES Girls Club Project. This one is of Juana and Xunka's visit to NYC. We are in the farmer's market at Union Square where they drank "wheat grass". That's Jennifer, Nyasia, Sharamain, Maria, Elizabeth, Lou and Lyn. We have had many adventures together and will have more when all of you come this time. The girls are excited about taking you home to meet their families.

Aunque no puedo estar en Chiapas, estoy con usted en alcohol. Estoy corrigiendo las fotos de nuestro AFI y las muchachas de LES aporrean proyecto. Éste está de visita de Juana y de Xunka a NYC. Somos en el mercado del granjero en el cuadrado de la unión donde bebieron la "hierba del trigo". Ése es Jennifer, Nyasia, Sharamain, Maria, Elizabeth, Lou y Lyn. Hemos tenido muchas aventuras juntas y haremos que más cuando usted vengan este vez. Excitan a las muchachas sobre tomarle el hogar para satisfacer a sus familias. Saludo a todos.

STREET WISDOM
I found this sign on the New York City streets. The inspiring message was written by the artist, Dela Vega. He leaves his sayings all around the town.
I asked to be photographed with the sign so I could inspire others, too.
Also, I would like to meet him one day and show him the photograph.
Encontré esta muestra en las calles de New York City. El mensaje inspirante fue escrito por el artista, Dela Vega. Él deja sus refranes todo alrededor de la ciudad. Painted Banner
Girls paint a banner with the words "Kids Against the War" to be carried at the "World Says No To War March" on February 15th, here in New York City.

Queshema says" The Maya women photographers always liked to touch my hair." Here she is with a new hair style for her appearance on a popular television show in New York City.
She laughs with affection when she remembers her time with all of you in Chiapas.

Yo me llamo Juana Lopez Lopez. Tengo 32 años. Vivo en la colonia nueva palestina, San Cristobál de las Casas, Chiapas. Vivo con mi mamá y mi hermano menor y cuñada con 2 sobrinos. Mi mamá asi es su forma de preparar tamales de frijoles. Me gustó el intercambio con las niñas de Nueva York para mostrar mis fotos sobre nuestras costumbres de hacer tamales. Y salsa de jitomate con chile, cebolla, y cilantro, y la compramos en el mercado.

I live with my mom, my younger brother, and my sister in law with two nephews. My mom in the photos to follow is preparing tamales with beans.
