Club Balam
Club Balam is a collaboration between the Lower Eastside Girls Club photography program and professional photographers from San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico. The Cultural Association Na Bolom is graciously hosting the project.
Club Balam is an out growth of the Girls Club’s past photography project in Chiapas, culminating in the publication of our book, “village voices / virtual journey”.
Xunka Lopez Diaz and Juana Lopez Lopez, two of the Maya photographers from the first Chiapas Project are now in leadership positions in Club Balam. Janet Schwartz, the project director, is an active member of the international press corps. She has lived and worked in Chiapas for over 25 years.
