presentation update

Hi,
ok, with typical girls club style, we have changed our minds again. Because presenting next week the 3rd might be a bite rushed for everyone. We have decided to postpone your presentation. Instead, We would like you to continue with the research and prepare a 3- 5page essay to turn in December 16th. This is the final deadline. I need a rough draft by December 11th. I will review this and make an appointment with each of you to make improvements. The final drafts will be bound in a hard copy and given to board members. if you email me updates this will help you out.
good luck
jennifer

Week of thanks to give

hey blog interns.... I have some updates for you folks.

Very Important News......
Board of Trustees meeting will be December 3rd. Please meet at the Girls Club at 6pm and you can go with Lyn and Adrianna. Unfortunately I will still be out of town....I have to go to a conference in Florida until Tuesday evening. So, this means everyone should have their presentations ready by next Tuesday for the meeting. Becuase I believe that you all may need help in preparing your materials and messege for the meeting, I strongly, strongly suggest that you come to the Girls Club either Monday or Wednesday so we can brainstorm together. This is pretty important, so I wouldnt blow it off until next week. call me at the girls club, 982-1633 or cell 917-679-9785, or email me gala@girlsclub.org.
Also, your checks are here for you.
And...please blog... i need summaries for diana, will and jason.
take care and happy turkey veggie day.

Thursday at Eric's office

On thursday, Jason and I met up at the Builder's office. Eric, immediately, put us to work; filing HPD, and Con-ed forms.

Because I've done the work I did in Eric's office on thurs. in my previous secretarial jobs, filing was easy for me, but can become confusing work, if one isn't organized. It is tedious work, but can improve anyones organizational skills. So, that's all I have to say about my day at Eric's office; filing some papers, and placing them in alphabetical order in the filing cabinets. I can't wait, to do some more filing on tuesday.

meeting with Debra

Jason and I are at the girls club and we just came out of a meeting with four of the staff. Jennifer, Lyn, Debra, and Adriana and they spoke to us on getting a proposal ready fro the EDC a.k.a the city. This proposal has to have a building plan, the buiness plans, cost of everything, and exhibits. The EDC needs this to so that the girls club can keep the land and to prove to them that we really do need this land and will put it to good use. We also need to get John(princple of ICE) a little more on tract with the building because we need his full support in order to get a least for the borad of education for the building.

Jason "The Websites don't work"

last week

Well it's my last week at the builders office and it's been real. Will and i have been doing kind of the same stuff copies, phone calls and cover pages. But I have been doing a good amount of reading over contracts and excpections that are being held to the builders. It's good because I get to have a behind the sences view of what it is that the builders have to do. Like they have to do a lot of the paper work and making contracts with the construction workers and unions. They also have to send in for orders from places like PC Richards and get the right amount of bases for kitchensand things of that sort. We have also been file about 11 floders of all the projects they have right now so you get to see what kind of building needs what kind of supplies. Well next week I will start at craig's and see what the other side is doing.

week 4

thanks diana and jason for attending the meeting on Wednesday. Jonas met with us and he will be work as a teacher liason from now on. so that is good news. he can help you out with the questions that you may have or with your upcoming projects. Each one is responsable for a topic which you will prepare a presentation for the next Girls Club Board of Trustees Meeting December 3rd. The essay is due in January.
Jason-waste managament
Norma- alternative energy resources
Will -ithica dollars/alternative "money"
Diana- Alternative Food sources-supporting local agriculture in schools

Each one of you need to research these topics and incorperate the information that you find into the Girls Club Building Plan. For instance, how will the girls club building include alternative energy resources in their building, what will the costs be, the benefits and the drawbacks. I am sure you all have a lot of questions about this, so please contact me. We should all meet one and one to discuss your ideas for you topic, and I have lots of resources that might help you out. so dont wait until the last moment.

Also. you should all read the article that I handed you (will you need to pick this up). The article Grid to Green is about alternative energy resources. Please read the article and tell me what you think about it. Basically i want you to prove to me that you read it by telling me something interesting about it. I hope you find it useful.
Your checks are waiting for you in the office, and you can pick them up once you blog on.... giving answers to the questions and summary of your work.

Good luck, hope to hear from you soon. remember we switch intern sites next week.

Answers to question 1 from last week

On Thursday October 31, at the Architects office I worked on the building model, Which I re-did because I was not satisfied with the work I had done. Even though I worked 40 minutes extra, I have to admit it was worth it. Thanks to Craig who taught me how to use the exacto-knife correctly, and made it look so simple (and made me feel so stupid, but I am sure that was not his intention), I learned how to cut perfect squares (well, almost perfect).

1. The Department of Design and Construction, is an agency that was formed in 1995. The DDC is that which has the authority of carry out "Citywide Aministratice Services, Departments of Transportation, and Environmental" projects. But what it mainly does is, re-construct (improve), contruct, or design city facilities in the cheapest manner, but assuring that the projects are designed with care and quality. I'll post the rest of the answers in the next blog entry, tonight.
