On the drive to Cancuc we stopped to check out a cemetery. We learned that it wasn’t disrespectful to step on the graves, because the people buried there were now part of the earth. Alternately, we found out that putting flowers on the grave or having extravagant tombstones was disrespectful, as it differentiates one person from the other. And in this culture, we are all the same in the afterlife.
