I met these two boys in Chenalho. The boy on the right we met in a restaurant, his name is Cesar and he is 10 years old. He was sitting outside of the restaurant when Leigh started talking to him. He was very shy at first but he warmed up to us. We found out he was alone and didn’t know his family so we let him join us for lunch. He was so sweet and kind. Cesar ended up staying with us until we left. The one on the left is Sergio. I met him by the bull pin. He was playing on the bars as if they were monkey bars. Sonia and I started talking to him but he didn’t understand us because he didn’t speak spanish; he spoke Tzotzil. Cesar was kind enough to translate for us. We found out Sergio was also an orphan. He didn’t know his family, or when his birthday was, which means he didn’t know how old he was. I found it so crazy how these two little boys are orphans and on there own. With no help from no one, they still manage to smile and laugh. As we drove away, they followed our van. This sad scene made me cry a little. I admire these boys so much for their courage, will to survive, and upbeat attitude. By Apolonia Euvin

Las Calles de Chiapa
Chiapas, Mexico was a beautiful place that we got to experience. We learned about their culture, their style, and their language. The architect was built a specific way for the Mexicans. There were many beautiful little houses with bright colors and open patios to keep cool on a hot sunny day. The sidewalks were so narrow we had to walk in single file to get to where we were going. The sidewalks are extra steep to prevent the streets from flooding from the heavy rain during the rainy seasons. You can tell the little town is very old and built traditionally with concrete and bright colors. We were also really impressed by some of the house’s big wooden door ways and the interesting doors knobs. All of Chiapas was a beautiful sight and we are grateful that we got to see it! Not everyone gets to have a wonderful experience like we did together. Brittany Baez
